Don't Skip on Waste

by Keith Snyder

Undergoing outdoor renovations can be a costly and unsightly process, especially if you are unable to dispose of organic and non-organic waste immediately. This can also pose problems for the environment, as waste can get blown away and animals can eat toxic materials and nest within rubbish heaps.

Ensuring you have access to a good quality and cheap skip bin hire can enable you to responsibly undergo projects such as garden renovations, whilst making sure your waste is disposed of quickly and efficiently and in the most environmental way possible as per Australia's National Waste Policy. This article will offer advice to help you to organise the rental of a skip with minimal fuss.

Know What Size

Skips come in various sizes, and it can be difficult to know which size will be suitable for your particular task. Fortunately many companies will offer practical advise and will be able to recommend a size. If however you'd like to try and anticipate that yourself, to either save money on a smaller skip or because you're renting online, you can estimate using bin bags.

Many sites will actually give the size of the bins in square feet or by the amount of black bin bags they hold. This makes it easier to anticipate your needs; however, should you find that you need more room, many skips can be collected at an agreed time, then returned again ready to be refilled.

Anticipate the Drop

If you live in an urban area, then receiving a skip may be difficult. Before it is dropped off there are a few things you can do to minimise the obstruction caused to neighboring roads and houses, and assist with a quick drop off and collection. Firstly, notify your local council and neighbors of the skip, as they may be willing to make exceptions with parking and allow it to be located on the road. If however the skip needs to be placed on the property, try to inform the company of the width of any walls to ensure that the vehicle will be able to maneuver onto the property.

Fill it Up

When filling your skip make sure you follow the company's recommended fill up line. Overfilling a skip is both illegal and dangerous for transportation and could put you at risk of further charges. You'll also need to inform the company about the various types of waste you'll be filling the skip with, as they may require you to separate the waste into different skips.
